This year’s congress theme “Listen to the Song of Silence” was inspired by Swamiji’s poem "Serenade God with a Song of Silence” . Each event explores the silent, subtle, and meditative nature of the Himalayan Tradition’s yogic practices. Yoga Nidra Weekend : July 17 to July 19, 2009 Yoga Nidra, also known as “Yogic Sleep," is conscious sleep, a state of sleepless sleep, between sleep and meditation, where one obtains complete rest. For thousands of years the Meditation Masters have used the methods of sleepless sleep to learn the secrets of the self, to discover depths of sciences and arts, and to rejuvenate and to heal themselves. Yoga Nidra cannot be taught; it can only be transmitted. This weekend intensive gives one the skills and the opportunity to experience the Power of Conscious Sleep with Swami Veda. The Yoga Nidra weekend beginning on Saturday morning (check-in on Friday afternoon) and ending on Sunday afternoon, will explore the practice and theory of Yoga Nidra as taught through the Himalayan Yoga Tradition. Each day will include multiple presentations on theories and philosophy followed by practice sessions. The weekend will culminate with the direct transmission of Yoga Nidra from Swami Veda Bharati. This weeklong workshop, beginning Monday morning (July 20) and ending Friday afternoon (July 24), will explore the theory, practice and teaching of the Prana Vidya style of Hatha Yoga. Spirituality Weekend : July 24 to July 26, 2009 Many conferences are designed to search for ways in which the religions of the world can find common ground to help guide humanity in a peaceful direction. However, according to Swami Veda Bharati, such ground has been established already for thousands of years by ordinary people, as well as by sages, saints, philosophers, and theologians. At the August 2000 United Nations’ World Peace Summit, presented a unified theory demonstrating the shared streams that have linked the religions of the world throughout history. This weekend seminar, beginning Friday evening (July 24) and ending Sunday late afternoon (July 26) is an opportunity to spiritually experience the unifying single stream flowing through all religions. Join Swami Veda and other spiritual leaders as they lead you through spiritual practices of various religions and faiths. Friday evening Russill Paul , bhaktic chanting master and recording artist, will begin the program with a Kirtan. Kirtan is a cross-cultural musical experience of call-and-response chanting. Though it involves music, it is not about musical ability; it is about the heart. Through chanting, one becomes absorbed into sounds that reconnect us to the One All-pervasive Consciousness that lies within.
Each retreat participant is invited to join in a traditional Yoga Ashram Program Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday will include the day-long Yoga of Sound workshop lead by Russill Paul, and the evening will conclude with Swami Veda leading a Peace Meditation. Seminar participants will be joined by the Twin Cities Community and Interfaith Groups to meditate together to celebrate and promote the oneness of Peace within and without. On Sunday afternoon an Interfaith Vision of Peace seminar, from 1 to 6 PM, will be led by representatives of Christianity, Buddhism, Sufism, Judaism, Hinduism, Native American spirituality and other spiritual paths. The unifying concept of peace will be explored within the tenets of each tradition. The program will conclude with a panel and audience discussion focused on how to bring the peace that is intrinsically within us into the world around us. Immersing oneself in Silence provides a window to witness with deepening awareness the nature of one’s own mind. Over several days, the subtlety of that awareness moves one beyond the mind to reveal one’s inner teacher – the Inner Guru. The world beckons the senses to explore external enchantments, but Silence can lead you to an expansive and much more satisfying inner life – to your true Self. Step away from daily distractions and attend one of the Silence options: 4, 5, 6 or 10 days. Each Silence session begins with an Orientation and ends with an optional “Coming Out” of Silence group session. Participants are welcome to silently observe any of the weekday concurrent programs during their stay. Separate registration is required for the evening or weekend programs. A silent Meditation room, a silent Hatha room, and a silence section of the dining room will be designated to support ones personal practice of Silence.
